The music has only become more and more relevant for life as time has passed. I finally grasped the sonic and lyrical brilliance of the band. To this day, it's one of the most meaningful (maybe the most meaningful) albums of my life. It became the soundtrack of a really pivotal time of personal emotional growth and experience. From the opening drone of Table For Glasses, the album changed my life on those summer evening runs. Futures had begun to strike more of a resonant chord and, as such, a small pang of curiosity drove me to purchase an album called Clarity on iTunes.
I got really into running that year and started working out with an iPod for the first time (I know, I always would run without music or just listen to the music playing in the gym prior). It was the summer I turned 20 where the whole connection shifted profoundly. I still didn't really dive into the more complex lyrical themes (or appreciate Jim Adkins' writing enough) in songs like Dizzy or Chase This Light. When I was a college freshman, Chase This Light came out and the glossy, often-bubblegum sweet aura of songs like Always Be and Here It Goes painted a dazzling soundtrack for that transitional fall semester. It was the first Jimmy Eat World CD I owned and I really enjoyed the nocturnal essence that it captivated it still resonates to me as a late-night listen. By high school, Futures resonated more powerfully for me (although it was still largely the radio singles that I dove into).
